Steinen
Steinen is a charming little village on the shores of Lake Lauerz. Here you will find an ideal starting point for many activities around the Schwyz valley basin. There are unlimited opportunities for sport, relaxation and recreation at any time of year. Steinen has something to suit every culinary taste, from the Gehren alpine restaurant below the Wildspitz to the typical Schwyz pub in the village center.
Customs
The widely known Steiner-Chilbi (already referred to in the press as "the Chilbi of all Chilbenen") takes place every year on the first Sunday in October and attracts thousands of visitors. The Steiner Carnival is also very well known with the Rott der Steiner Nüssler, which was first documented in 1861 and whose main character, alongside Domino, Bajazzo, Alter Herr, Hudi and Zigeuner, is the Blätz, led by the two local characters Talibasch and Välädi. The Greilfet is of course also a must. On Epiphany Day, up to a hundred Geisle-Chlepfer and Trichler in white shepherd's shirts and black pointed caps parade together from the station through the village, making a deafening noise.

Lake Lauerz & the Sägel-Schutt nature reserve
Lake Lauerz is characterized by two features that are rare today and which make it particularly valuable for humans and nature: Due to the typical sedimentation process, its shores are home to an overwhelming variety of habitats that can only be found in transitional areas from land to water. It is also the last lake in the Prealps whose water level fluctuates naturally. The Sägel-Schutt nature reserve is located between Goldau and Lauerz. It is characterized by a diversity of species that can hardly be found anywhere else in Switzerland. Let yourself be enchanted by this idyll!
