Brunnen

Brunnen lies in the heart of Switzerland and is more than just a small-town pearl on Lake Lucerne. Situated directly on Lake Lucerne, it offers a unique view of Lake Uri and the magnificent panorama of the Bauenstöcke and the firn-crowned Urirotstock. Behind you is the magnificent backdrop of the two Mythen mountains. No wonder the resort is just as popular with locals as it is with visitors.

History

Brunnen was first mentioned in documents in 1222. The region played an important role in the history of Switzerland, as the Federal Charter of 1291, which united the three original cantons of Schwyz, Uri and Unterwalden, symbolizes the origins of the Swiss Confederation. Until 1618, Ingenbohl and Brunnen belonged to the ecclesiastical parish of Schwyz and were referred to as part of the "Old Land of Schwyz". After the construction of the Gotthard route, Brunnen became an important transshipment point for goods. Later, many travelers discovered the idyllic village as a health resort, and the municipality developed into a popular vacation destination.

Lake of Uri

The most impressive part of Lake Lucerne is Lake Uri, which stretches 11 kilometers south from Brunnen to Flüelen. Lake Uri resembles a Norwegian fjord and offers spectacular views. The Rütli - the cradle of Switzerland - can be easily reached by boat from Brunnen. Switzerland's most famous hiking trail, the "Swiss Path", runs around Lake Uri and was a gift to all Swiss people to mark the 700th anniversary of the Swiss Confederation.
